Class Description

E-Bike and Scooter Safety Course
The E-Bike and Scooter Safety Course is designed to provide riders with the knowledge, awareness, and practical skills needed to safely operate electric bicycles and scooters in a variety of environments. As the popularity of personal electric transportation continues to grow, riders must understand not only how to safely control these devices, but also the responsibilities that come with sharing roads, sidewalks, trails, and public spaces with others.
This course explores the unique characteristics of e-bikes and scooters, including their quiet operation, rapid acceleration, compact design, and higher travel speeds compared to traditional bicycles. Participants will learn how these factors can create visibility challenges for motorists, pedestrians, and other riders, increasing the importance of defensive riding techniques, situational awareness, and responsible decision-making. This course also emphasizes the importance of personal accountability, respect for community spaces, and making choices that contribute to a safer riding culture for everyone.
Topics Covered Include:
• Rules of the Road
Understanding traffic laws, local regulations, right-of-way rules, signaling, and safe navigation in streets, bike lanes, intersections, and shared-use areas.
• Line of Sight and Blind Spots
Learning how visibility affects rider safety and how to position yourself to remain visible to motorists, pedestrians, and other roadway users.
• Penalties for Riding in Restricted Areas
• Influences and Decision-Making
• Safety Gear and Proper Operation
• Impact of Social Media
Discussing how online trends, videos, and social media challenges can encourage unsafe riding behaviors and unrealistic perceptions of risk.
• Values and Personal Responsibility
• Community Impact
• Rider Responsibility and Enjoyment
Promoting a balanced approach that prioritizes both safety and enjoyment, helping participants build confidence while making responsible riding choices.
By the end of the course, participants will have a stronger understanding of safe riding practices, legal responsibilities, and the importance of making informed decisions that protect themselves and others while enjoying the benefits of electric transportation.
