TEACHING DRIVERS UNDER 21 YEARS SAFE AND RESPONSIBLE DRIVING HABITS
Program Overview

Level 1 Young Adult Defensive Driving focuses the client's attention on eliminating dangerous distractions while driving and developing more effective driving attitudes. The program is designed to reach younger drivers with a wide range of potentially dangerous driving habits.

Studies show that with young adult drivers, processing risky driving actions in a small classroom setting may hold the most promise for lasting behavior change. I.S.A.E.'s Level 1 Young Adult Defensive Driving program is tailor made for clients under the age of 21 years.

Topics Include:
  • Pre and Post-Attitude Questionnaire
  • Values Clarification & Influence Examination
  • Traffic Laws Specific to Colorado Young Adult Drivers
  • Selecting Driving Speeds & Calculating Stopping Distances
  • Identifying & Eliminating Driver Distractions
  • Proper Use of Occupant Restraints
  • Vehicle Maintenance & Vehicle Emergency Kits
  • Proper Hand Positioning on the Steering Wheel
  • Baby DUI Laws and the Consequences of Using Alcohol and/or Drugs While Driving
  • Express Consent, Driving Privilege Revocations & Colorado's Point Suspension System
  • Preparing for Unpredictable Driving Situations
  • Goal Setting

Format:
  • Cost is $45 per participant.
  • I.S.A.E. will accommodate all indigent clients as determined by the referring agency.
  • Clients must submit a 300-word essay to the referral source within 1 week of attending.

Who Are the Clients?
  • Any driver under the age of 21 that has received a ticket for a traffic violation or infraction.
  • Any driver under the age of 21 needing education about safe driving practices and traffic laws.

LEVEL I ADULT DEFENSIVE DRIVING

Driving
Program Overview

Level 1 Defensive Driving provides the necessary prevention and intervention information to clients with traffic violations. The program is designed to reach drivers with a wide range of topics concerning "Responsible Defensive Driving". The presentation consists of pre and post- testing, lecture, visual aids and group exercises.

Through education and increased understanding, drivers can make better choices about their driving habits and learn the skills necessary to improve their driving ability. Level 1 Defensive Driving is designed to improve driver awareness and decrease the risk of accidents.

  • Road Rage Prevention
  • Physical and Mental Conditions of the Driver
  • Personal Choices - Drugs, Alcohol and Driving
  • Driving Conditions and the Environment
  • Collision Prevention Formulae
  • Two-second Following Distance Rule
  • City and Suburban Driving

Format:
  • Cost is $55 per participant.
  • I.S.A.E. will accommodate all indigent clients as determined by the referring agency.

  • Clients needing education on general driving guidelines.
  • Anyone wanting to improve their driving skills.

LEVEL 2 DEFENSIVE DRIVING

VIEW CLASS SCHEDULES
FOR AGGRESSIVE and IMPULSIVE DRIVERS
Program Overview

Level 2 Defensive Driving for all Ages provides education and intervention information to repeat traffic violators and traffic offenders in need of more extensive anger management and impulse control training. The program is designed for drivers with a wide range of dangerous driving habits including speeding, drinking and driving and driver initiated "attention distracters". The presentation consists of pre- and post-attitude questionnaires, lecture, visual aids and group exercises.

Through the development of time, stress and anger management as well as impulse control techniques, clients learn to become safer and more empathetic toward others on the road. Participants will also become more aware of how their poor driving choices are negatively affecting their personal lives, the lives of other drivers and pedestrians, and their own driving privileges.
